Follow on Shop
The Follow on Shop button lets customers follow your store from the Shop app (Shopify’s consumer mobile app). Followers can quickly find your store again, get notified of new products, and complete purchases with a single tap via Shop Pay.
Where it appears
- The Footer — when the Show Follow on Shop setting is enabled.
Prerequisites
The Follow on Shop button works automatically when:
- The Shop app is enabled for your store (this is on by default for stores that accept Shop Pay).
- The footer setting Show Follow on Shop is enabled in Pave (the default).
You don’t need any additional app installation; the button is rendered directly by Shopify.
What customers see
A button with the Shop logo and the text “Follow on Shop” (or a localized variation depending on the customer’s locale). Tapping the button:
- On a mobile device with the Shop app installed: opens the app and adds the store to the customer’s followed list.
- On a mobile device without the Shop app: prompts to install the app, then follows the store after install.
- On desktop: opens the Shop web experience or prompts the customer to scan a QR code to install the app.
Tips
- Place the button in the footer. That’s the default. Adding it elsewhere is unnecessary — customers who reach the footer have engaged enough to be likely candidates to follow.
- Don’t disable it without reason. Followers are a high-quality marketing channel: they’ve actively chosen to hear from you, and Shop Pay completes purchases in a single tap.
- Combine with email signup. Followers and email subscribers reach different audiences — one prefers app notifications, the other prefers email.
Troubleshooting
- The button doesn’t appear — Confirm Show Follow on Shop is enabled in the Footer section settings. If still missing, confirm Shopify Payments is set up, since Shop Pay is part of the Shopify Payments stack.
- Tapping the button does nothing on desktop — On desktop without the Shop app, tapping opens the Shop web app. Some customers will see a QR code prompt instead.
