First steps
Once Pave is installed, work through these steps to get your storefront ready to launch.
1. Upload your logo and favicon
Open the theme editor (Online Store > Themes > Customize on Pave), then click Theme settings in the left sidebar.
- Logo — In the Logo category, upload your logo image and adjust Logo width to suit. The logo only appears in sections that have shop branding enabled (the home page hides it by default to give the hero banner more space).
- Favicon — In the Favicon category, upload a
32 by 32 px .pngimage. This is the small icon that appears in browser tabs and bookmarks. - Social share image — Also in the Favicon category, upload a
1200 by 628 pximage. This is the Open Graph and Twitter image used when your store is shared on social media and a page does not have its own image.
See Logo and Favicon for the full reference.
2. Configure colors and typography
- Colors — Open the Colors category in Theme settings. Pave ships with three color schemes that you can apply to any section. Edit the schemes to match your brand. See Colors.
- Typography — Open the Typography category. Choose a heading font and a body font from the Shopify-hosted Google Fonts library, and adjust Title size and Text size as needed. See Typography.
3. Create your menus
Pave reads menus from your Shopify navigation, not from the theme. To create or edit menus:
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Navigation.
- Edit the Main menu to add the links you want shown in the side navigation panel.
- Optionally create or edit the Footer menu to control the links in the footer columns.
Pave’s navigation panel supports up to three levels of nesting. See Navigation.
4. Add your products and collections
In your Shopify admin:
- Go to Products and add your products. For each product, upload high-quality images, set variant options (size, color), and configure pricing.
- Go to Products > Collections to group products into collections.
- Assign at least one image to each collection so the collection list section can display it.
For the home page, set up at least:
- A handful of new products that the New arrivals section will pick up.
- Two or more collections for the Collection list section.
5. Connect the home page sections to your content
Open the theme editor and select sections one at a time on the home page:
- Hero banner — Upload a desktop and (optional) mobile background image. Set the brand name overlay text.
- New arrivals — The section automatically pulls your most recent products. Optionally pick specific products on each block.
- Brand message — Replace the default heading and body copy with your brand voice. Add an image and link to a key collection.
- Collection list — Pick two or three collections to feature.
- Brand image — Upload a wide editorial image and pick a focal point.
- Newsletter — Confirm the heading and subtext. The form posts to Shopify’s customer database; signups become customers tagged as accepting marketing.
See Home page for the full reference.
6. Set up checkout, taxes, and shipping
Pave handles the storefront. Checkout, taxes, shipping, and payments are configured in your Shopify admin and are the same regardless of theme.
- Payments —
Shopify admin > Settings > Payments. See the Shopify Help Center: Payments. - Shipping —
Shopify admin > Settings > Shipping and delivery. See the Shopify Help Center: Shipping. - Taxes —
Shopify admin > Settings > Taxes and duties. See the Shopify Help Center: Taxes. - Markets and multi-currency —
Shopify admin > Settings > Markets. See Multi-currency and language.
7. Configure your store policies
Pave automatically renders a Privacy policy, Terms of service, Refund policy, and Shipping policy in the side navigation panel and footer when those policies exist.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Policies.
- Use the prefilled templates as a starting point and edit them to match your business.
- Save. The links appear automatically in Pave.
8. Set up store metadata
- Shop name —
Shopify admin > Settings > General. This is the fallback brand text shown anywhere a custom value is not set. - Address and contact information —
Shopify admin > Settings > General. Used in invoices, packing slips, and the contact page. - Currency —
Shopify admin > Settings > General > Store currency.
9. Preview every page
Before publishing, walk through every key page in the preview to confirm everything looks right:
- Home page
- Collection list page
- Catalog page
- Product page
- Cart page
- Search page
- Blog page
- Article page
- Contact page
- A page from a regular page template
- 404 page (visit any non-existent URL)
10. Publish
When you are happy with the result, publish Pave from Online Store > Themes and announce your launch.
